I'm a web developer / user experience consultant specialising in the client-side development process, and I'm based in London. I assist businesses to create highly usable and accessible websites with advanced functionality. I have worked for companies including the BBC, Sky and Hachette Filipacchi.
At Hachette Filipacchi I primarily worked on SugarScape which was built using Drupal - a PHP-based open source content management platform hosted on Linux. Drupal is modular and scalable and my role was to extend the base SugarScape build as part of a redesign carried out in March 2008. This involved requirements analysis, translating requirements into specifications, extensive work on the information architecture, user experience analysis and user testing, and finally the site build, carried out along with a team of developers.

My role in the redevelopment of the Sky News website involved analysing the current content hierarchy and information structure and building a new design onto the current content that existed, as well as gap analysis. Considerable user experience work was done to improve the user journey to required content. Primary objectives were to fit the design to the new Sky News branding and improve click-through to deeper content. The client side consists of semantic mark up with modular CSS and JavaScript, all integrated into the Sky News content management system. The resulting pages were required to validate as XHTML strict, and conform to W3C and WAI AA standards.
Also at Sky I ran a team doing some user experience work to improve the conversion rates on the Sky Products portal ? a high-use E-Commerce site. We proposed many improvements to the system including simplification, usability, advanced functionality and more intuitive navigation.

In addition to being in full time employment, I have been involved with web development projects for the BBC. Projects often involved creating dynamic and easily updatable web templates driven by XML with XSL transforms, or small databases. Sites were created using XHTML, CSS, DOM Scripting, CGI applications and dynamically-driven Flash.
As well as design and technical implementation, I have project-managed some jobs including discussing user requirements and creating a project plan, which includes a detailed specification and deliverables, assumptions and requirements from the client, and a project timeline and milestones.

Development of a website with user participation tools using Drupal. The client side consists of semantically marked up code blocks with modular CSS and JavaScript, all integrated into Drupal as a php template to skin the CMS output. The resulting pages validate as XHTML strict, and conform to W3C and WAI AA standards.
My First Class degree was complemented by the Graham Hawkes Award for the best project in the faculty and the Thomas Gerald Gray Award for academic achievement. My thesis was on 3D animation techniques and culminated in me producing a short 3D film and a series of photo quality digital images. Modules for the degree course included Internet Technologies & Web Design, Multimedia Production Management and Databases for Multimedia Applications.
